| ROB MCKAY
was born August 8 1960 in Calgary, Alberta, the great grandson of Joseph
Chartrand, a Medicine man from the Blackfoot tribe in Manitoba.
Rob is an Artisan, working with various metals and specializing in high quality finishes. He began his metal-working career at the age of 15, and although economic forces drew him away to other vocations from time to time, his penchant is for working with metal, and so he has always gravitated back to it. Through the generations, leading back to the medicine man from Manitoba, Robs family has always maintained a strong bond to their native bloodline. Upon the discovery of the art of native Lawrence Andrew from Squamish, Rob felt compelled to craft the images in precious metal, using his skills as an artisan. It was perhaps the ancient medicine man, creating this synergy and using Rob's skills, that has culminated in his fine metal art he now produces. |

Laurence Andrew
first started to draw, paint and carve traditional Norhtwest coast Native
art in the late 1960's.
Most of the designs that he creates were taught to him by his grandfather who was raised in the Squamish area. In addition to his grand father, Laurence has also been inspired by his close friend Chief Dan George and Stan Joseph also of the Squamish nation area. Since first being inspired Laurence has produced thousands of pieces in stone, wood, paintings and limited editions. His works have sold all over the world, including Europe and the USA, Japan and Australia. Collectors seek out his works of art galleries in most major cities in many countries. |
